Cleveland READS Company Challenge Kick-Off Breakfast

On April 19th, the Cleveland Public Library hosted a breakfast event to discuss the economic and workforce benefits of improved literacy. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how to engage their organizations in the Company Challenge, showing support for Cleveland READS. The event featured Eric Gordon, CEO of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and a panel discussion with Blaine Griffin, Cleveland City Council President, Donna Flynt, Manager Workforce Diversity and Governance at Parker Hannifin Corp., and Hal Martin, Policy Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. The discussion was moderated by LaRese Purnell of CLE Consulting. The Cleveland READS challenge was launched by the City of Cleveland, the Cleveland Public Library, the Cleveland Teachers Union, and 30 community partners to promote literacy and provide books and resources to the community. Though their original goal was to read one million books and/or one million minutes in 2023, they have already surpassed their minute goal, and the event encouraged attendees to continue fostering a love of reading and to participate in the Cleveland READS Company Challenge.
